Runners from across Nigeria are preparing to converge on Isonyin for the Masa Isonyin Marathon 2026, a 21-kilometre road race scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Isonyin, Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Themed “Running for Elevation,” the marathon is expected to attract elite athletes, amateur runners, local competitors and sports enthusiasts for a day of endurance, competition and community celebration.
Organisers have announced a total prize pool of ₦15 million, with separate categories for elite and local runners. Both categories are open to male and female participants, creating opportunities for competitors from Ogun State and other parts of Nigeria.
In the elite category, the male and female winners will each receive ₦1.5 million, while the second-placed runners will receive ₦1 million each. Third place comes with ₦700,000, while athletes finishing from fourth to twentieth position will also receive cash prizes.
For local runners, the male and female champions will each take home ₦1 million. The second-placed competitors will receive ₦500,000, while third place attracts ₦250,000. Cash rewards will also be presented to runners finishing within the top 20 positions.
The Masa Isonyin Marathon has continued to grow as one of Ogun State’s emerging road races. Beyond the financial rewards, the event promotes physical fitness, discipline, community participation and tourism within Isonyin and the surrounding Ijebu area.
According to the organisers, registration is free and will remain open until August 19, 2026. Athletes and interested participants are expected to complete their registration before the deadline to secure their places in the race.
The event is powered by the Masa Foundation for Youth Development, reflecting its wider objective of using sports to inspire young people, encourage healthy living and create opportunities for talent development.
With its growing prize structure and national participation, the 2026 edition is expected to strengthen the marathon’s position on Ogun State’s sporting calendar while drawing visitors, athletes and supporters to Isonyin.
