TASUED Honors Humble TJ: 13 Years of Remembrance, A Legacy of Courage Lives On

Date:

February 14, 2025, marks the 13th anniversary of the tragic loss of Olatunji Fashina, fondly known as Humble TJ, a fearless student leader who paid the ultimate price in the fight to save Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) from merger and scrapping under the administration of former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

For over a decade, the TASUED community has turned what the world celebrates as Valentine’s Day into a solemn day of remembrance—honoring the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of Humble TJ. This year, the commemoration took on a new dimension as the Students Union Government (SUG) introduced a scholarship in his name, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire generations of students.

The prestigious scholarship was awarded to Temiloluwa Rachael Ogunsanwo, a 300-level Mathematics student with a remarkable 5.00 CGPA, recognizing her outstanding academic performance and dedication to excellence. This initiative, pioneered by the 17th SUG administration under the leadership of President Comrade Abidakun Tomide Micheal, seeks to immortalize the name of Humble TJ in a way that empowers future leaders.

Adding a significant gesture to this act of remembrance, Dr. Ishola Adebayo of the Department of Educational Technology, a frontline activist in the historic #OccupyTASUED protest that saved the institution, has pledged to cover the tuition fees of the scholarship recipient. His unwavering commitment to comradeship, academic advancement, and student advocacy exemplifies the very ideals that Humble TJ stood for.

As TASUED gathers to honor its fallen hero, the message remains clear—his sacrifice was not in vain. The spirit of activism, courage, and resilience he embodied continues to thrive in the hearts of students and alumni. The fight he led to protect the university’s autonomy has not only secured the institution’s existence but also strengthened the collective resolve of the TASUED community.

Today, as banners fly high and tributes pour in, we say once again: Rest in power, Humble TJ. Your bravery echoes through time, and your legacy remains unshaken.
